Mongrel

The picture above is a dude I trained with once but didn't get his permission to post his photo so I cut off his head.

This bloke is new to crossfit but is... no word of a lie... an Animal!

In my mind he epitomises the concept that intensity breeds results. Previous training was body building centric(as evidenced by arms like my thighs) but no doubt would have been done with some severe intensity.

As a result this guy did 30 MU on his first attempt and can match it with the heavy hitters on a regular basis.

The point of this post is that while I am convinced Crossfit will produce elite fitness, great fitness can be achieved via any training method if one gets some mongrel into them whenever the train.

I know those guns

On his second attempt at 30MU for time he halved his first attempt time of 14min something, down to 7min something. Animal!!!

Plus, a really nice bloke

Agreed, but you have to agreed that neither you or I really 'went after our training' the same way this bloke obviously did pre Crossfit.

I think that there is something in that - we need to understand that best strength and conditioning program or not Bloody Hard Work is one of the most relevant stepping stones to fitness sucess.

lol, I probably still don't go after my training to the same level this bloke does...

That needs to change

G'day Brett,

My names is Mick, I train at the crossfit NQ box when I can, mornings, otherwise at home with limited gear. I have been reading your stuff for a while (no I'm not a stalker), I just find your insights and fitness knowledge very interesting and inspiring. I particularly like what you’ve said here about “putting some mongrel” into training. I was thinking along these lines just a couple of days ago. In my rugby playing days I was never the most skilful player, but was always did pretty well because I played with “mongrel” and intensity, so I figure if I take the same mind set towards my training (think of it as a competitive sport) the results will come much faster.

I also think that this attitude crosses over into most of everything that we pursue in life, if we put some mongrel into chasing whatever it is we are after the results will come more readily.
